Whimsy

I decided to check out my new neighbourhood yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at what lay beyond my doorstep- loads of cafes, bookshops, vintage stores and boutiques! Who knew? I loved exploring and having a good riffle through the vintage clothes. I have to confess that I like the idea of vintage, but can rarely find anything that fits, is in good condition and doesn't look like fancy dress.....until I found this cute little store which makes dreses from vintage fabrics, kinda like urban renewal. I had to buy this dress coz it's got the cutest print-little owls! hope you guys are having a great sunday!

Bleached

It's so true that some outfits wait in your wardrobe for the right time to be worn. I've recently moved and came across this lovely vintage dress I bought years ago. At the time I loved the print, but was a bit shy about wearing it. I came across it today and realised how fabulous it was and my inner Anna Dello Russo went 'Pah! It's fabulous! Why leave it to wilt in your wardrobe?' I guess the moral to this story is keep the things YOU love and forget what anyone else thinks!I was also playing around with the exposures and love how these pics turned out. They almost made my living room look exotic!

Is Designer Dead?- A Rant

An interesting thing happened to me the other day.I decided to buy a new pair of RayBans at the airport (duty-free, here I come!), so after trying on a few pairs and settling on one, I went to to the sales assistant to get a new pair. He looked at me as if I was crazy and said 'we don't keep stock anymore....we sell over 200 pairs a day, so our stock is all displayed'. He then proceeded to wipe the display pair and chuck it in a bag. Is this what buying designer has become? A process akin to buying a magazine from a kiosk? What exactly am I paying for?
I've had misgivings about designer goods ever since my beloved Chanel Bag started to fray around a the bottom seam. To put it in perspective, I've worn that bag less than 20 times in the past 3 years and it lives in a garment bag in a box, when not being worn.I don't leave it on the floor or anywhere in fact. I expected something so expensive to be passed down to my grandchildren (if it's frayed then, that's fine). So what IS the point of buying designer? I've had Topshop bags last for longer and all I have is the privilege of giving a particular fashion house free advertising. Surely you should get superior quality for that price, or am I just helping to pay the rent on Rue Cambon? Not to mention the lesser known fact, that the beautiful red soles on Louboutins, rub off after one wear. Nowadays, no one can afford to buy inferior goods, regardless of their income. Maybe it's time to accept that a bag is just a bag.

There's a storm brewing

I loved how the evening sky looked tonight and think it provided a nice contrast to my summery outfit. I'm in LOVE with maxiskirts and really love the different reincarnations available on the highstreet, My favourite is this gorgeous teal one- how awesome is the colour? Are you guys loving maxiskirts as well?

Original

I love this new mini-movie of Kate Moss for Spanish highstreet store, Mango.Kate again showcases why she's an icon and this video is much less about the clothes than it is about Kate looking fierce. Still. It's quite an achievement that after two decades in fashion, she's still relevant.

Versace for H&M

Wow. I'm so impressed that H&M continue to collaborate with couture houses to produce affordable lines, but at the risk of sounding controversial, I'm not sure how this particular one will translate. I'm envisioning lots of bright colours, body con and leather, but will it look classy or tacky when mass produced? Only time will tell, but until then, we have a little preview.

Festival Beauty

Right, so the outfits have been planned and packed, the wellies have been dusted off....now for the face! Festival makeup has to be durable and flattering, which is a pretty tall order! At the festival last weekend, I kept my makeup fresh and simple- so much easier to touch up and so much prettier in full sunlight! Seriously, just filled in my brows, mascara,a sweep of eyeshadow, tinted moisturiser, bronzer, blush and lip balm....that's it! Natural beauty, eh? lol. Below is a pic of the stuff I brought (sorry about the poor quality!).Stay tuned for the final installment of the series!
lots of love,
