Kate + Ziggy

Of course Kate is killing it yet again! It amazing that she is still modelling and managing to stay relevant (beyond difficult when the world seems obsessed with the likes of the Kardashians). I love David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust phase and love this homage even more! what do you guys think?

Jack of All Trades

Tom Ford has actually decided to let us in on his ultra-exclusive woman's line- and it doesn't disappoint. The collection looks like a throwback to Tom's years at Gucci, but when has that ever been a bad thing? The colour, print and cut are fabulous, but priced to match. sigh, one can dream!

New Additions

Okay, okay, I've finally come out of my hibernation cage long enough to see too many cute things on the highstreet nowadays! Again, River Island is killing it and here are my a few pieces soon to be a part of my wardrobe......

I'm also saving my energy for the Versace for H&M launch- see you at the tills and don't take it personally if I elbow you :P

Now What?

Can I just say that I hate transeasonal dressing? It's too warm for new coats (+J has my name ALL over it) and too cold for minidresses. Also, the rain and hurricane weather isn't exactly fun. All this time indoors led me to rediscover my closet (especially fun when you're skint) and I found this vintage top (first seen here) buried under a detritus of H&M scarves .I loved how it looked with shredded denim and slouchy boots! There's something about sequins against denim and grey marl that just makes it more special!

Festival Final

tank top All Saints, shorts Levis, wellies Hunter, jacket Animal, sunglasses  Rayban

Last weekend I went to my final festival of this summer ( Creamfields) and I've learnt that when the weather forecast says 'sunny intervals', take your waterproofs along coz it's going to rain ALL weekend! UGH. Despite the mud and rain, most girls ended up looking fresh, cool and stylish....so what's the secret? After a few convos, I discovered their tricks for looking cute:
1) Wellies! Bring these no matter what the forecast says, invest in a cute pair. Trust me, you don't want to lose your favourite loafers or sandals

2) Visit the hair salon before going- oversized bun + lots of pins (ie bridal hair) = a nonbudge style come wind or rain.

3)Kimonos: so versatile and easily transformed a tank top and cutoff jeans into something Kate Moss would be proud of

4) Sunglasses, no matter if it's bright or dark- these hide tired eyes, runny makeup etc

5) Gel Nails- not the mega long french polished acrylics (these have had their day!) but classic red polish that lats up to three weeks!

6)  A decent spray tan- natural colour hides a multitude of sins, including cellulite. I also find that you can get away with less makeup when you have a tan.

As you can see from the above photo, I chose warmth and comfort! LOL! I also managed to capture the one sunny moment all weekend! Hope you guys had a great one!

Spotlight on: River Island

I was out taking pics of the AMAZING graffiti around Bristol today, so I thought I'd pop in to River Island to see what was new and one word: Wow. I'd written off this store as the place where sequins and polyester came to die, but was so surprised to see that the aesthetic has undergone a transformation. Gone are the sparkly glitter t shirts- they've been replaced by their older siblings. Rich tones of russet, mustard and teal prevailed, and the styles were much more covered up. Is the highstreet finally realising that young girls no longer want to look like Jordan/Paris Hilton/Snookie? Check it out guys and lemme know if you agree!

Whimsy

I decided to check out my new neighbourhood yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at what lay beyond my doorstep- loads of cafes, bookshops, vintage stores and boutiques! Who knew? I loved exploring and having a good riffle through the vintage clothes. I have to confess that I like the idea of vintage, but can rarely find anything that fits, is in good condition and doesn't look like fancy dress.....until I found this cute little store which makes dreses from vintage fabrics, kinda like urban renewal. I had to buy this dress coz it's got the cutest print-little owls! hope you guys are having a great sunday!

Bleached

It's so true that some outfits wait in your wardrobe for the right time to be worn. I've recently moved and came across this lovely vintage dress I bought years ago. At the time I loved the print, but was a bit shy about wearing it. I came across it today and realised how fabulous it was and my inner Anna Dello Russo went 'Pah! It's fabulous! Why leave it to wilt in your wardrobe?' I guess the moral to this story is keep the things YOU love and forget what anyone else thinks!I was also playing around with the exposures and love how these pics turned out. They almost made my living room look exotic!

Is Designer Dead?- A Rant

An interesting thing happened to me the other day.I decided to buy a new pair of RayBans at the airport (duty-free, here I come!), so after trying on a few pairs and settling on one, I went to to the sales assistant to get a new pair. He looked at me as if I was crazy and said 'we don't keep stock anymore....we sell over 200 pairs a day, so our stock is all displayed'. He then proceeded to wipe the display pair and chuck it in a bag. Is this what buying designer has become? A process akin to buying a magazine from a kiosk? What exactly am I paying for?
I've had misgivings about designer goods ever since my beloved Chanel Bag started to fray around a the bottom seam. To put it in perspective, I've worn that bag less than 20 times in the past 3 years and it lives in a garment bag in a box, when not being worn.I don't leave it on the floor or anywhere in fact. I expected something so expensive to be passed down to my grandchildren (if it's frayed then, that's fine). So what IS the point of buying designer? I've had Topshop bags last for longer and all I have is the privilege of giving a particular fashion house free advertising. Surely you should get superior quality for that price, or am I just helping to pay the rent on Rue Cambon? Not to mention the lesser known fact, that the beautiful red soles on Louboutins, rub off after one wear. Nowadays, no one can afford to buy inferior goods, regardless of their income. Maybe it's time to accept that a bag is just a bag.

There's a storm brewing

I loved how the evening sky looked tonight and think it provided a nice contrast to my summery outfit. I'm in LOVE with maxiskirts and really love the different reincarnations available on the highstreet, My favourite is this gorgeous teal one- how awesome is the colour? Are you guys loving maxiskirts as well?

Original

I love this new mini-movie of Kate Moss for Spanish highstreet store, Mango.Kate again showcases why she's an icon and this video is much less about the clothes than it is about Kate looking fierce. Still. It's quite an achievement that after two decades in fashion, she's still relevant.

Versace for H&M

Wow. I'm so impressed that H&M continue to collaborate with couture houses to produce affordable lines, but at the risk of sounding controversial, I'm not sure how this particular one will translate. I'm envisioning lots of bright colours, body con and leather, but will it look classy or tacky when mass produced? Only time will tell, but until then, we have a little preview.

Festival Beauty

Right, so the outfits have been planned and packed, the wellies have been dusted off....now for the face! Festival makeup has to be durable and flattering, which is a pretty tall order! At the festival last weekend, I kept my makeup fresh and simple- so much easier to touch up and so much prettier in full sunlight! Seriously, just filled in my brows, mascara,a sweep of eyeshadow, tinted moisturiser, bronzer, blush and lip balm....that's it! Natural beauty, eh? lol. Below is a pic of the stuff I brought (sorry about the poor quality!).Stay tuned for the final installment of the series!
lots of love,

Festival Fashion: Part Deux

Accessories? Obviously!

You know that I love, love LOVE accessories and believe that they can take a meh look and make it amazing, so I think this entire section should talk about which ones I’m taking along to complete my looks. Personally, festivals aren’t really the place for my most expensive or treasured items (The Chanel bag stays at home) just in case any of them were damaged or lost. It’s so easy to lose things and I don’t want anything ruining my good time. Here are the bits I’m taking….what else would you take?

clockwise from left: Bag warehouse, bracelets urban outfitters, headband Asos, rings H&M and Asos, necklace V&A shop, green necklace gifted, studded belt urban outfitters renewal, cuff urban outfitters, earrings topshop scaves Alexander Mcqueen and H&M
My festival bag should be large enough to fit my essentials (cash, ID, phone, lipbalm) as well as be pickpocket-proof. This bag has a drawstring as well and a snap closure. It's also across the body, leaving my hands free (okay, for holding drinks) and raving. I cannot stress the importance of having a secure bag that's not too heavy(so you won't keep putting it down). Also, the festival belt/bag combos are a much cuter version of a bum bag.
Both scarves are oversized and the red one is cashmere- perfect for keeping warm in the evening.Scarves are brilliant not only for finishing an outfit(around the head, neck, waist or as a top/dress) but they're practical if you want to sit down or use as a towel. Pick up a couple of cheap ones from the holiday sections on the highstreet.

clockwise from left: Floppy hat Asos, black hat warehouse, black rimmed hat topshop, ankle boots primark, scarf kookai

I'm also packing a couple hats to hide the inevitable bad hair days (dry shampoos can only do so much). I love the floppy version to add a 70's feel to my sundresses. Also these ankle boots are so comfy! I'll be wearing them with denim cutoffs or to toughen up my minidresses. I think I'll also bring some brogues and love deckshoes with shorts.

from left: Rayban wayfarers, Chloe Heloise sunglasses

No festival look would be complete without sunglasses. I'm only bringing two this time and keeping the shapes classic. I think cat-eyed shaped or coloured sunglasses are so cute and hope to see loads of them there, but personally I'd rather stay low key to compliment my looks.

Festival Fashion: Part Une

And here, as promised is my festival series. I’m so excited about the festival season: great music, new friends and lots of beer! I always have such a great time and I’m sure you guys do as well! The real challenge is how to look good/stylish when you haven’t showered in 2 days and been sleeping in a tent for 3 hours a night! Here is my four part guide to looking your best (easily and cheaply!) Hope you guys enjoy it!

Fashwaaaan!!!

Classically, there have been 2 festival fashion camps: Boho and rocker chick. I’m a huge advocate of both looks and think both look great in the sunshine, but why not use this opportunity to try something new or trendy? This year, I’m trying colour blocking: so simple and easy, but big impact! The highstreet is full of separates in gorgeous colours (favourites include H&M and River Island), so you could try blue/red/green or yellow/red/blue combos. Anything goes really! The only drawback being that you have to pack loads of separates, which can be a pain or you may not have the space.

Perfect Rocker chick

I’m loving the summer blouses (Topshop do the best ones) and love them paired with denim cutoffs or capris pants. Such a great laid back look, whilst adding a ladylike edge. Also, for those lucky enough to find a vintage treasure, why not wear it at a festival? Remember to wear with modern pieces to keep it from looking constumey. One woman who does this beautifully is Dita Von Teese.

I know it's a playsuit, but the whole ensemble is perfectly pitched

Unfortunately, there are some fashions that look great, but become complete disasters practically: maxidresses and playsuits. I love, love, love these, but seriously, they can be total pains. Maxidresses are great until you try to walk around in them- they seem to collect detritus by dragging on the floor. Also, people step on the hem and before you know it, it’s a minidress (this may only apply to me since I’m short!). Playsuits are so cute (especially with wellies/brogues/utility boots) but they completely fail when visiting the Portaloos. Who wants to get naked in a portaloo? Ewww.

you look ace hun, but impractical!

Hunter

Hiya Everyone!
Wow, it's been ages since I've updated, but between work, moving and general craziness, it's been hard to find the time. Anywho, I'm SO DAMN HAPPY it's finally warming up- can't wait for summer. I just can't dress for winter and just tend to hibernate or if I must go out, throw on some layers, leggings and Uggs! I've got a couple of posts coming up and......I'm going to Isle of Wight festival this year (that's why I've got the pic above) so I will have multiple festival fashion trends and survival guides coming up. Are you guys heading to any festivals this year?

High Resolution

Hiya guys! It's time for the New Year's Resolutions again, where I vow to work out four times a week, eat well and invest my money wisely...only to make the same ones next year! This year, I'm making some that actually count and that I'll be proud to keep:
1) Blog more: The posts have been a little sporadic, but believe it or not, it's hard to find places to shoot around where I live!
2) Experiment with makeup (results to be seen soon :) )
3) Invest my money into some Celine-esque looks- timeless, chic and oh-so-worth it!
4) Post a couple new features and some giveaways! Yay!

What's on your list?
